James Stewart May Miss Week 1 for the Miracles

James Stewart has been ruled out from playing in yet another preseason game.  A lingering sore Achilles has kept Jonathan Stewart on the sidelines for much of the Miami Miracles’ preseason. In fact, of the 48 times the Miracles have practiced during 2009 – including training camp and organized team activities in the spring – Stewart has been on the field for eight of them.

It remains unclear when Stewart will return. It certainly won’t be tonight and it’s looking more and more unlikely he will be ready for the season opener against the Charleston Challengers.

Stewart’s absence fundamentally alters the dynamics of the offense, and if Knowshon Moreno is similarly unable to suit up for the season opener, coach Jeff Zieger may have to start Ray Rice or Fred Jackson as the single back in a run-and-shoot offensive configuration.

Noted Zieger critic Manford Fowler was last seen in Las Vegas Friday betting a considerable amount of his 401K against the Miracles for Week 1.
